Women Composers, Women’s Voices
Vocal music of the 19th and 20th Centuries
Songs, arias and ensembles by Amy Beach, Lili Boulanger, Pauline Viardot & Maria Malibran
In this unique recital, VPR pays tribute to four women composers whose genius and persistence overcame the odds: celebrated 19th opera diva sisters Maria Malibran and Pauline Viardot, American composer and concert pianist Amy Marcy Cheney Beach, and the tragically short-lived, but deeply influential Lili Boulanger. Included in our program – courtesy of Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy’s kind permission to use their new engraving – will be the first known public hearing of Amy Beach’s unpublished song “If Women Will Not Be Inclined.”
