Songs of Travel, a musical meditation on the theme of journeying, seeks to explore the questions: How does a journey begin? Where does it lead? How does it end? What is changed? What is lost, and, finally, what is found? Songs of Travel evokes the experience of travel through song, dance, piano music and projections, as well as artwork created during the performance. The event blurs the roles of performer and spectator by inviting audience participation. Reflecting the unpredictable nature of travel, random elements will be introduced during the performance, creating a unique, interactive experience for performers and audience alike.

The Vaughan Williams song cycle Songs of Travel provides the story and framework of a journey while the Berg and Messiaen songs amplify the inner life of the traveler. Two dancers embody guides on the journey, ferrying the performers and the audience between the inner and outer world.
